Psalm 1 describes the keys to the life and godliness of one who is blessed of God – “his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night” (Psalm 1:2).

For a sinner to delight in the law of the LORD is to have a right relationship with God. The only way a sinner can have a right relationship with God is through Christ. Sinners are justified by God’s grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus. Our standing before God, according to His strict law and inflexible justice, is based on our being accepted in Christ, based on His shed blood and imputed righteousness.

To meditate on God’s law day and night is to view life from God’s perspective in His word. In the new birth, God the Holy Spirit implants within our hearts the divine principles of spiritual life, knowledge, and truth as He shows us our sin and drives us to Christ for salvation. From this perspective we see how all things truly work together for the glory of God and our eternal good in Christ. This is being truly blessed of God.
