Christ and Him crucified is the heart of the Gospel.

Everything in a sinner’s salvation points back to the glorious Person and finished work of Christ on the cross. God’s electing grace before the foundation of the world pointed to Christ on the cross. God’s redeeming, justifying grace was accomplished in time by Christ on the cross. God’s regenerating grace in the new birth is the fruit of Christ on the cross and points sinners to rest in Christ on the cross.

It is by a saving revelation of Christ on the cross and by the motivation of grace in Him and His finished work that God the Holy Spirit inspires God’s children to persevere, obey, and worship and serve God in a spirit of love, gratitude and grace. Two of the most profound statements in Scripture that show us the reality of Christ, crucified as the heart of the Gospel were written by the Holy Spirit through the apostle Paul –

“For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and Him crucified.”
(1 Corinthians 2:2)

“But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.”
(Galatians 6:14)
