Are You THE Sinner?
God’s Riches in Christ
“Are You THE Sinner?
When self-righteous, unregenerate, lost sinners read a question like this title, they immediately think: “What a simple question. We know we’ve all sinned.”
Actually, this question isn’t as simple as it appears.
Let me be perfectly clear: I’m not asking you if you’ve sinned, i.e., broken God’s holy law (lied, stolen, murdered, lusted, worshipped other gods).
The Scriptures make it clear that EVERYONE (moral or immoral; religious or unreligious) has SINNED -
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23)
I’m not even asking you if you think and readily admit God would be just and holy in condemning you for your sinfulness.
Many wrongly assume they’re saved based on this false humility in admitting before God, as well as to other sinners the darkness and evil of their sin.
THIS IS NOT AN EVIDENCE OF SALVATION!
Esau realized his sinfulness and even sought repentance, BUT IT ONLY EVIDENCED HIS LOST CONDITION - “Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright. For ye know how that afterward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears.” (Hebrews 12:16,17)
Judas Iscariot realized the same, BUT IT DID HIM ABSOLUTELY NO GOOD - “Then Judas, which had betrayed Him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders, Saying, I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood. And they said, What is that to us? see thou to that. And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself.” (Matthew 27:3-5)
That being said, this seemingly simply question isn’t so easy to answer, is it?
Every blood-bought, justified, regenerated and converted elect sinner knows and rejoices in the answer to this question. While God’s elect do readily admit that God would be just and holy in condemning them based on their character and conduct, i.e., their best obedience to keep His commandments or their best religious performances, they don’t consider this to be evidence they are His children. Every child of God is forced to cry with the Apostle Paul - “O wretched man that I am! Who shall deliver me from the body of this death?” (Romans 7:24)
This acknowledgement by God’s elect, though painful, comes with the certain assurance by God the Holy Spirit through the Word of God, that Christ their representative PUT THEIR SINS AWAY COMPLETELY AT CALVARY - “This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to SAVE (to reconcile and redeem) sinners; of whom I am chief.” (1 Timothy 1:15)
Salvation isn’t knowing only God’s justice in condemning you based on your sinfulness. Salvation is being convinced that a Holy, Eternal, Sovereign, Just God is both JUST and HOLY in redeeming and bringing to glory those sinners who are the objects of His love.
PLEASE READ Isaiah 45:21,22.
Are you THE sinner?
I hope you are!!!
