THE CALL OF GOD - PART 4
In our final part of this study on 'The call of God' we will concentrate on the inward (internal) call for this is the CALL OF GOD which results in the sinner realizing that they are in a state of justification (not guilty, righteous) before God ALL based on the person and work of the Lord Jesus Christ!
Our text today will be 2 Peter 1:10.
2 Peter 1:10
Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall.
Our text is written to God's elect who:
2 Peter 1:1
...them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ.
Our text is written to believers.
"wherefore, give diligence to make your calling and election sure": God is not making a suggestion here; God is giving a command: "give diligence" which means seriously make proof of, make haste to prove..........."your calling and election sure": this is written in legal forensic terms (like in a legal court case).
God is calling one to prove they have been called and elected by God.
What proof does one need that one has been elected?
The Bible teaches that God elected (chose) His people unto salvation.
Do you believe this?
1 Peter 1:2 tells how one is elect:
1 Peter 1:2
Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification (to set one apart) of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.
One is elect, not by following a religion, or rituals, or creeds; but because God chose them to salvation, Christ purchased their salvation, and the Holy Spirit applies this salvation through hearing the true gospel (THE CALL OF GOD) of salvation conditioned on Christ alone: "unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ".
Do you believe this?
Or do you believe you can come to God and be saved some other way than Christ ALONE?
If one finds oneself believing in Christ ALONE for ALL of their salvation it is because they are among God's elect, and in beliving the true gospel one can make their calling sure. So one can make their calling and electing sure as God commands in our text by looking to Christ ALONE for ALL of salvation!
And here is God's promise to those who do.
2 Peter 1:11
"For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ."
We end this study with God's promise to His people:
For whosoever (everyone that) shall call upon the name of the Lord (trust in Christ ALONE for ALL of salvation) shall be saved.
