Just before the death of actor W. C. Fields, a friend visited Fields’ hospital room and was surprised to find him thumbing through a Bible. Asked what he was doing with a Bible, Fields replied, “I’m looking for loopholes.”
Men often look for loopholes in the law to avoid paying taxes or to side-step the penalty of a law they have broken, but when it comes to salvation and passing the test of God’s final judgment, there are no loopholes. The Bible is clear – God “hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.” (Acts 17:31)
All who are found at the Judgment without Christ as their Savior, their Redeemer, and their Righteousness, shall be damned. Our only hope is to be washed in His precious blood and covered in His glorious righteousness. Without HIM, there is no way out from under the judgment of the law against our sin.
