THE CALLING OF CHRIST'S CHURCH - PART 1
We begin a new study entitled: "The calling of Christ's church".
Our text will be II Thessalonians 2:13-14.
Today we will consider Christ's church. Now many can say: I go to the Baptist church, or the Catholic church, or the Methodist church. I'm not speaking of these so-called "churches". I'm speaking of the calling of Christ's church.
Christ's church consists of all of God's elect who have been or who will be regenerated (born again) and called by the gospel. Christ's church is all of God's chosen people throughout history.
All the true Christians who at anytime in history are called a remnant: a very small group within a large group.
"Even so at this present time there is a remnant according to the election of grace."
Christ's church is all true believer's in Christ: those who trust in Christ ALONE for ALL their salvation!
Christ purchased this church on the cross of calvary: "thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people (Christ's church) from their sins."
"I (Christ) am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep (Christ's church)."
"feed the church of God (Christ's church), which he (Christ) purchased with his own blood."
Christ's church are those who were chosen by the Father, redeemed by Christ, and to whom the Holy Spirit has or will come and reveal the gospel to them unto salvation!
This is the church that God's elect belong to.
God willing, by the end of our study of this text, we can know if we are in Christ's church.
Let's read our text II Thessalonians 2:13-14:
"But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:
Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ".
(II Thessalonians 2:13-14)
In our text, we will see in our studies that if one is a member of Christ's church, it is because: God has chosen His people to salvation, and that Jesus Christ came and made an atonement (a perfect sacrifice) for them saving them, and that the Holy Spirit will come to each one of them and they will hear the true gospel, and the Holy Spirit will accompany God's Word with the Spirit's power, and the elect sinner will repent and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ ALONE for ALL their salvation!
The true gospel is: God's promise to save His people, and entitle them to all of salvation's blessing, including the work of the Holy Spirit in them, and all of heaven's blessings to come, ALL grounded (based) on Christ and Him crucified!
The true gospel is salvation conditioned (grounded) on Christ ALONE!
Repenting is completely changing ones mind about something; concerning gospel repentance - it is repenting that you ever thought anything you did (your works) could save you and recommend you unto God; for one sees in believing the gospel that salvation is of the Lord!
If you are a believer, this study will be a blessing to you. If you are not a believer and are amongst God's elect: may God be pleased to present unto you His gospel and the one true church - Christ's church.
