THE LAMB SLAIN FROM THE FOUNDATION
“And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship Him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.”
Christ was and is God’s appointed “Lamb slain from the foundation of the world” for all God’s elect.
This verse in no way teaches any ridiculous assertion as if to say that Christ was actually slain, actually shed His precious blood and died for His people, before the world was created, before God created Adam, and before Adam fell.
It does not assert, or even imply, that Christ’s actual incarnation and death on the cross were unnecessary and did not really have to take place in time.
It simply teaches that what Christ accomplished in time was the purpose and mind of God in eternity (Acts 2:23; Acts 4:28).
The cross did not happen in time before the world began, but it was always a fact in the eternal mind and purpose of God – “Known unto God are all His works from the beginning of the world” (Acts 15:18).
The value, glory, and power of Christ, crucified, was already at work in the mind and purpose of God. Christ dying on the cross 2000 years ago did not change God’s mind towards His elect people. It revealed what God’s mind always was, is, and ever will be towards His elect people.
